Sunday Worship 10am
July 25: The Little Prince ? Taming the Fox

A Warm & Welcoming Place in the Heart of the City

Welcome, newcomers! Meet the Ministry Team | Sermons | Leadership Blog

Worship, Children's Classes and Nursery Care every Sunday at 10am.
Your children are welcome!

Welcome to First Parish! We hope the beauty and tradition of our historic Meeting House will give meaning to your time here. No matter what your belief or circumstance, we invite you to explore what our congregation might offer you. Whatever your ethnic origin, sexual orientation, religious heritage, or physical abilities, you are welcome here.

We gather for public worship every Sunday at 10 AM and throughout the week for a variety of meetings and programs. Our mission is to help one another on our shared journey through life, to provide resources that awaken and sustain love, and to affirm our principles publicly through service and advocacy.

First Parish stands at both the historical and the contemporary center of Portland. Our central location, which we embrace proudly, calls us to spiritual witness and public service. We believe there are four essential ingredients necessary for spiritual growth: a willingness to accept and give support to one another; an openness to learning and to exploring life?s mysteries; a disciplined spiritual practice of one?s own choosing, and a commitment to serve and advocate for others.

Each Sunday we say this affirmation, which expresses the core of our faith:

Love is the doctrine of this church, the quest for truth is our sacrament, and service is our prayer. This is our great covenant: To dwell together in peace, To seek the truth in love, And to help one another, to the end that all souls shall grow in harmony with the divine.

If you would like to explore further how you might become involved in our religious community, please feel free to call our church office during normal business hours, or simply drop by and join us for public worship Sunday Mornings at 10. We look forward to meeting you!

Stewardship Campaign Picks Up Steam

I Think I Can!

Like the Little Engine that Could, saying “I think I can! I think I can!” as it met the mountain’s challenge, First Parish can meet the challenges that now face us.  Our stewardship campaign this year is focused on providing for our new minister and keeping our wonderful staff intact.  Here’s what it will take:  Our pledge income will need to grow by $30,000.  Each of us has a part in meeting this challenge, helping this train pick up steam.  We think we can, we think we can, we know we can!

By now, most members and active friends will have been invited to a gathering in someone’s home for dessert and the chance to share our thoughts and make our financial commitments.  If you’ve not received an invitation, call Allen Armstrong (774-1682) and we’ll see that you do.

The Stewardship Campaign Team:
Elissa Armstrong, Linda Shary, Stephanie Eglinton, Jen Caswell, Beth Marshall, Rev. Kitsy Winthrop (ex officio),
Tom Rogers and Allen Armstrong, Co-Chairs

Meet our New Minister

Congratulations to the Next Settled Minister of First Parish, The Rev. Christina Sillari!

On Sunday, May 23rd, 81 members of First Parish entered the meeting house to decide on whether to call Rev. Sillari as our next settled minister.  There were 80 yes votes, and one abstention.  Rev. Sillari was informed of the vote and was asked if she would accept the call.  She answered that she would.

Rev. Sillari will start work August 1st, and, come fall, we all look forward to a new era in the long and storied history of First Parish.
