Sunday Worship 10am
March 14:
Worshipping Allah in Maine

A Warm & Welcoming Place in the Heart of the City

Welcome, newcomers! Meet the Ministry Team | Sermons | Leadership Blog

Worship, Children's Classes and Nursery Care every Sunday at 10am.
Your children are welcome!

Welcome to First Parish! We hope the beauty and tradition of our historic Meeting House will give meaning to your time here. No matter what your belief or circumstance, we invite you to explore what our congregation might offer you. Whatever your ethnic origin, sexual orientation, religious heritage, or physical abilities, you are welcome here.

We gather for public worship every Sunday at 10 AM and throughout the week for a variety of meetings and programs. Our mission is to help one another on our shared journey through life, to provide resources that awaken and sustain love, and to affirm our principles publicly through service and advocacy.

First Parish stands at both the historical and the contemporary center of Portland. Our central location, which we embrace proudly, calls us to spiritual witness and public service. We believe there are four essential ingredients necessary for spiritual growth: a willingness to accept and give support to one another; an openness to learning and to exploring life?s mysteries; a disciplined spiritual practice of one?s own choosing, and a commitment to serve and advocate for others.

Each Sunday we say this affirmation, which expresses the core of our faith:

Love is the doctrine of this church, the quest for truth is our sacrament, and service is our prayer. This is our great covenant: To dwell together in peace, To seek the truth in love, And to help one another, to the end that all souls shall grow in harmony with the divine.

If you would like to explore further how you might become involved in our religious community, please feel free to call our church office during normal business hours, or simply drop by and join us for public worship Sunday Mornings at 10. We look forward to meeting you!

Haitian Relief Concert

First Parish Haiti Benefit Concert Great Success!
From the front door team to the outstanding musicians to the great food teams to the warm and welcoming place and community we offered - everything was superb and inspirational this past Sunday at our Haiti Benefit. From a spiritual presence to a community gathering, to an educational outreach to high artistic expression - it was all localville walking the talk for globalville and a great night out.
The tally so far is $5,300.00 and still counting.  First Parish can be proud to be the seed organization that gathered members, friends, and community in bringing this gift together and we can all be proud to be a part of the healing of Haiti.
Questions, feedback, suggestions, and other responses on what worked and what could go better would be gratefully appreciated by Betsy Whitman, Faith In Action Haiti Benefit coordinator.  You can reach her at ewhitman@gwi.net or during coffee hour after service.  Once again, big thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who stepped up and were the glue that made this event so successful.  As the Haitians say; Ayibobo!
