Some details...

  • Be sure to mark your selections in your "Getting Married" booklet before your ceremony preparation interview. You will receive this booklet after you have paid your fees.
  • Marriage License (if applicable): In Maine, you must obtain your marriage license from the clerk's office in the town either where you live or where the ceremony is taking place. If you are unable to get your marriage license by the time of the interview, the license and other paperwork must be delivered into the officiant's hands one week prior to the ceremony.
  • You may expect a preparation interview to last approximately one hour. During this time, you and your officiant will have the opportunity to get to know each other a bit, and you will plan your ceremony together.
  • If you are planning to have a large number of attendants, a rehearsal is highly recommended. One hour is booked for the rehearsal.
  • You may anticipate that the ceremony will take between twenty and thirty minutes.
  • We will allow an hour prior to the service for decorating the church. We are unable to store vases and other decorations after the ceremony, and your attendants must remove all decorations immediately after the service.
  • Because of Portland parking ordinances, you may not park in front of the church. Parking is available nearby at Elm Street, Monument Square, Temple Street, and Public Market garages.
  • We do not allow rice, birdseed, or confetti at the church.
  • Flash photography must be discussed with the officiant; we do not advise it except during the processional and recessional. Opportunities for existing-light video and non-flash photography may be arranged with your officiant. Please feel free to take pictures in the garden and on the front steps after the ceremony.
  • No animals allowed, although service animals are welcome.
  • The First Parish is a vibrant, active faith community. We welcome you into our space for your special day. Please be aware that because our parish is not solely a "wedding venue," we display our banners and flags at all times. Thank you for joining us in our historic space and for respecting our traditions.
