Men's GroupThe Senior Men’s Group,

which meets monthly for lunch, describes itself this way:

“The First Parish Senior Men’s Group adheres religiously to some basic principles: we have no officers, no agenda, no dues, no programs, and no bylaws. We do meet once a month, have an excellent luncheon, and spend a couple of hours enjoying each other’s company. It is a worthwhile get-together of retired or semi-retired men and anyone, a member of First Parish or not, younger or older, who wishes to join the group is most welcome.”

The Senior Men's Group meets at the church for their monthly luncheons.

Connections takes a hike*Connections

is a loose-knit group about three years old that formed to connect people who want to share social activities. We generally but not always live alone, are new to the community, or simply want to get out together informally. We meet monthly for a Friday potluck dinner at the church, where we enjoy meeting new members, catching up with old members, and make plans about what we’d like to do the following month. An e-mail or “call” list keeps members up to date on activities and details. Past activities have included First Friday art walks, dinner out, movies, walks, hikes, snow shoeing, skiing, skating, writing together, solstice and equinox celebrations, blackberry picking, Thanksgiving dinner together—you name it!

This has been an interesting year for *Connections with several new members joining and well-attended monthly potluck meetings. We’ve been very happy to have Rev. Jensen join us a couple of times and hope he will be able to come again. Activity highlights have been: Portland Museum of Art, Winter Solstice celebration at East End Beach, beach walk at Pine Point, snow shoe hike at Peaks Island, Playback Theater at First Parish, Oratono Choral Concert, Gay Pearson’s Jazz Combo at 1 Longfellow Square, gourmet haddock supper made by Matthew Glaz and his father, Joel.

Upcoming ideas are: a Writing Project (contact Sally Waite), Portland Art Museum: George Bellows & drawings from the Boston Public Library, supper-and-gallery event (contact Pat Perrier), and Six “Connectors enjoyed a hike on Peaks Island, with Sandy Lucas, recently. If anyone is interested, she will look into organizing another one (contact Joan Stanton or Pat).

We are very fortunate to have Pat Perrier’s help in getting out e-mails and keeping the list up to date. If you would like to be part of this lively and interesting group, contact Pat at patperrier@aol.com or call Joan Stanton, 767-5655. Let us hear from you, and happy spring, Pat
